Dubai Crown Prince seen ‘hovering’ over the ocean

The Crown Prince of Dubai has been ‘hovering’ over the ocean with the latest toy built for the waves, according to his Instagram posts.
HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, also chairman of Dubai Sports Council, shared a picture of himself levitating above the water on a hoverboard on Friday.
He is also seen holding a selfie stick in one of the photos.
Being touted as the coolest new toy for yacht owners and thrill seekers, a hoverboard is a levitating board resembling a skateboard without wheels.
The concept was first seen in the 1980s hit ‘Back to the Future II’. In the film, lead characters Marty McFly and Doctor Emmett Brown hover-boarded through the Wild West in an imaginary 2015. Unlike the movie, though, the present-day hoverboard works only on water.
While it is not clear which company Sheikh Hamdan’s hoverboard is from, a California startup succeeded in crowdfunding to build the contraption via Kickstarter last year.
About 3,169 backers pledged $510,590 to Hendo Hoverboard to help bring their project to life. The company stated at the time that if they reached their target, 10 beta versions of the boards would be up for grabs, though they will sell for $10,000 each.
The Hendo Hoverboard is expected to be officially launched on October 21, 2015 – the same date on which McFly heads back to the future.
